Director and Principal Pscyhologist
Carlos Schafer is our Director and Principal Psychologist and he specialises in addictions, relationship counselling (marriage counselling), depression, stress management, anxiety disorders and executive counselling.
Personal Details and Interests
I’m a registered psychologist with two passions – counselling psychology and executive counselling. To support my passion for counselling, I am trained in experiential psychology, cognitive emotive behavioural therapy, post rationalist therapy, emotional focused therapy, and hypnosis and have a keen interest in alternative healing. I have mixed this with a Postgraduate Diploma in Human Resources and Masters of Business Administration (MBA) to better support my corporate clients.
Counselling Psychologist
As a counselling psychologist, I assist clients with addictions (drug and alcohol dependent and compulsive behaviours such as gambling), relationship counselling (marriage counselling), depression, stress management and anxiety disorders. My approach is holistic with a strong influence on emotion focused therapy and cognitive behavioural therapy. Although I focus on the process, I support my clients to achieve the outcome that they desire.
Executive Counselling
Executive counselling develops clients into competent managers and leaders and supports them with their lives and career prospects in a holistic manner. I bring my personal experience as a manager in the corporate world and my training as a business person (HR-MBA) and as a counsellor to my clients. My passion in organisational development and strategic consulting combined with my experience allows me to support and develop professionals and executives in a unique manner. Executive counselling sessions are akin to having a strategic consultant, an HR manager, a coach and a therapist all in the same room supporting the progress of clients’ careers and lives.
Qualifications
Carlos underwent six years of training to become a psychologist and is assessed by the Australian Psychological Society (APS) as equivalent to a master degree allowing him to become a full member of the APS and being registered psychologist with AHPRA. He is also trained as a hypnotherapist and has training in experiential psychology, cognitive emotive behavioral therapy and has a keen interest in alternative healing. Carlos’ passion for psychological therapy is also shared by his interest in Organizational Development, he is the former president of Organisational Development Australia (www.ODaustralia.org) and currently is the Director of People and Culture Director for a well known Australian Company. He also has a Master of Business Administration, a Postgraduate Diploma of Human Resources, a Diploma of Ontological Coaching, is an advanced facilitator of team dynamics and has an MBTI accreditation among other tools.
